The padded trim supports on the sides make a big difference because not only do they noticeably take care of any pressure points on the vertical trim, but they also push the bar out farther from the doorway, giving your elbows more room to spread out as you pull-up. Disabling it will result in some disabled or missing features. I won't be buying any products from this company again. That doesn't work out well because the padding will eventually get crushed and the round bar will rub against the door frame as you do pull-ups.

I've been using this thing for nearly three years now. 19 reviews. They would minimize or avoid marring of the door trim. It's beefier than my other pull up bar and for whatever reason, I haven't heard so much as a creak from the horizontal door trim since using the Perfect Fitness pull-up bar. Since the pads don't rotate it's important to adjust it correctly or the pads won't lay flat and you'll dent your door trim.
On falling to the floor I mashed my toes, hit my knee and hurt my back. My doorway is 28" (opening size) with 3 1/2" trim width and it fits perfect; I have another doorway that's 32" (wheelchair width) and the pads only cover 2 1/2" on each side, which probably isn't ideal but could work if you're careful about staying centered. That old pull-up bar never feels sturdy in the door way, and it always pulls on the horizontal trim above the door, making me fear that it's going to rip the trim off the door and I'll tumble to the floor. Targeting muscles in the arms, chest, core, and back, the system can be used as a doorway pull-up bar or for sit-ups, push-ups, and dips. What a joke. If you go to Perfect Fitness' website, you can see that there is a NEW version of this product. I finally found one that was written by a personal trainer and seems to be legit. I've used a few different models of doorway pull up bars over the years.

I noticed that it has more "give" than I expected and that consequently I had to re-tighten the bolts several times, but unfortunately I did not anticipate the bolts failing. The screws they send you are too short to assemble the product. After hearing great things online about this pull up bar with endorsements from third parties, it just turned out to be a big disappointment. The product I got is not the same as the one shown here!
