We bought this bed about a week ago and I have to admit we are very unhappy with this purchase. Adjustable bed sides allow you to use mattresses of different thicknesses. We have the Hemnes bed -- and have had at one time or another both adults (400lbs), both kids (60lbs), and both dogs (120lbs) in the king-sized bed. Hemnes is made of solid pine. Nice inexpensive bed frame. The hole that connects the top of the foot board to the rest of the foot board was miss drilled and is twice as big which causes it to pop off all the time, which loosens everything on the foot board because it’s all held together very specifically.

That is, I had to move the whole bed by about half a feet and it was yawing (twisting) big time. Something I did do different is, I used plywood inside the frame to set the mattress on, I had pieces cut at home depot to fit in, the reason behind this was cause we have cats and they like to claw and make holes in the box springs and then crawl in it. I tried to tighten one of them and the screw went right through the head board frame.
We have experience using two other Ikea beds (Malm and Trysil) and we had no issues with them except that one of them were damaged in the box and I had to return and repurchase, which was not an issue. We highly value Ikea's products for its value for money, but this totally is not the case with this bed.

Ikea, please help. Wanted to give 1 star but we have spent $$$ at ikea and this is our first bad expereince, hence the 3 stars giving them the benefit of the doubt. Then place the other pieces of furniture like a dresser or vanity to balance the bedroom. IKEA bed frames are worldside recognized for its nice design, quality and modernity.

Beautiful craftsmanship all the way around. I find the Hemnes line is a better quality than some of the Ikea items, and love the fact that most of the bed is solid wood. I have a few Hemnes dressers, but not the one you mention.
Slatted mattress base is included in the price but packaged and picked up separately. But now we know we don't want to buy one when we do buy a house. It's a great bed and I would highly recommend it.

I was a little shocked to see so many negative reviews for this bed. All in all, it’s a good and cute bed frame. Do you need to use a box spring? The support beam is not well crafted . It worked really well during that time.
Also, the installation hardware which was provided with the bed too was flimsy as one of it broke upon tightening. Absolute garbage - it completely fell apart. Our experience has been fantastic--it looks great, it's totally sturdy, and it was much easier to assemble than some non-IKEA furniture we've had.
The price for this combination includes SKORVA midbeam, but it is a separate product which you pick from its own shelf at the store. Last night as me and my wife laid in the bed, the footboard just totally fell apart and eventually we went crashing into the floor in the middle of the night. I bought this bed a few years ago. Ikea, I would give this bed zero stars and calling customer service was zero stars as well. It was engineered very poorly and feel like I am out quite a bit of money now. We sleep on a full size hemnes bed frame with the slotted bed boards and a box spring.

I would just suggest more discussion on website regarding the different bases for this bed. Ugh. Combines with the other furniture in the HEMNES series.
I have had this bed frame for the past 2-3 years. I've even seen it in homes of friends for their guest rooms. If you want to spend $300 every few years, that's cool.
Three moves into different apartments and each time assembly has been pretty quick and easy! It looks very nice but I noticed the past week it has started creaking every time I sit on it or roll over in the night. It houses my pet mice, so it won't be filled with water. My husband and I have been sleeping on this with one of Ikea's mattresses for the past month. Tonight when I sat on the bed, the box spring FELL THROUGH the bed frame onto the floor and completely split the head board apart. We bought this bed about 2 years ago and now it has started to creak and shake everytime we get on or off the bed, the locking nuts are getting loose and popping out. Most likely upgrade with my next move but for the price, style and sturdiness it had been a dream. I purchased this bed a little over three years ago. Split down the middle. I used hemnes daybed (with regular mattress, but no no boxspring) successfully with around 450lbs for several years.
The wood broke and splintered on the end of one of the footer cross pieces.
We bought it new for my parents guest room while we stay here while buying a house.
Hemnes series seems really durable. IKEA is wonderful, this particular product should never be purchased however...... We LOVED this bed. No problems, no creaking, no worries.
