Hardline was formed when brothers Johnny and Joey Gioeli, originally from the band Brunette, teamed up with Journey guitarist Neal Schon. The band performed at St. John's music venues and released a six-song EP, entitled 'Generation Why?' Hardline emerged in the early 1990s with a sound that paired the muscular architecture of heavy metal with the soaring melodies and radio-ready sheen of glam and melodic hard rock. He had previously played several times with the Gioeli brothers in the band Brunette, replacing their regular drummer. Their early material has been compared by critics to the blues rock of Deep Purple, but they slowly began moving toward a more commercially accessible rock style.
The songwriting for this release was provided by Magnus Karlsson, Timo Tolkki (ex-Stratovarius), Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline), Tommy Denander (Radioactive), Roberto Tiranti and Andrea Cantarelli (Labyrinth), Sören Kronqvist (Sunstorm) and Brett Jones. Todd Jensen and Deen Castronovo left to join Ozzy Osbourne's backing band, though Jensen was replaced by Geezer Butler. They gained popularity during the 1980s and early 1990s. Entitled Danger Zone, the new album's art features an eclipse to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the debut album Double Eclipse and was released on May 18, 2012 by Frontiers Records. After only a few months of formation they were signed by MCA/Universal Records.
