Now, I’m a sucker for a good cocktail and Soho isn’t short on an excellent cocktail bar or two… Turns out that the guys at Bob Bob know their way around a drinks cart like nobody’s business – justification enough … The decadent décor is truly breath-taking and worth a visit just for that. In little longer than thirty seconds, your glass is being refilled by a pink-waistcoated waiter and you’re left wondering why you ever did anything else with your life. Yes, we all know there are lots of fancy restaurants to visit and there are very contradictory reviews of BBR, but if you like a classy, fun, buzzy, glamours 1930s art deco restaurant, you will love it here.

Chavot has put his own spin on recipes, but the Russian-influenced menu remains in all its glorious peculiarity. OK, it’s not small, but I sort of expected it to be huge and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t! The BBR chocolate glory is a nice surprise and very similar to The Ivy’s Chocolate Bomb. And I got to press it a few times! Some people had stopped for a relaxed lunch, some were very dressed up as if they were off to a fancy dinner – a nice contrast. Mains are aimed at people who think the 21st century might not be such a good idea after all, and I was happy to be one of them.
