Completionists looking for an irresistible challenge and franchise fans who missed out the first time around will find a lot to love here. Assassins Creed: Brotherhood - PlayStation 3.

Just like the Assassin’s Creed II Remaster before it, I feel like the already-tight budget Ubisoft assigned to this project could have been better spent elsewhere.

These make for a nice change of pace, as the focus is very much on movement puzzles over combat.

For the remaster, Ubisoft decided to give some aspects of the game a very clear and modern-day face-lift, while keeping other aspects of it tied down to the way it was originally. It features the epic journey of Connor Kenway, who fights to avenge his people and ultimately becomes the master assassin who ushers in a new age for the American Brotherhood. The Remastered version of the game has also introduced some very strange, and truly bad, graphical issues. Blending in with crowds and using open-world elements to hide from pursuers suddenly became the norm.

Instead, Brotherhood focuses on the violent grudge between Ezio and Cesare, who – while a megalomaniacal prick – doesn’t really do too many horrible things onscreen, apart from tearing up Monteriggioni. Add to that a compelling plot and interesting protagonist, great visuals and voice work, and enjoyable ship battles and assassination techniques, and the result is that series' fans will be well served here.

The lack of shadows, and what seems to be a complete loss of detail in facial expressions, results in plastic-like uncanny valley aesthetics that I certainly did not sign up for. Soprattutto in certe fasi movimentate, durante le battaglie, al cambio delle stagioni e nei panorami, quando dalle cime innevate dei monti o a bordo della nave si può assistere ammirati a tramonti o albe mozzafiato. Big and lengthy enough to stand on its own, Brotherhood is more varied than ACII was, crammed full of cool ideas, gadgets and missions that simply wouldn’t have fit in the last game. However, the remaster does improve the gameplay ever so slightly (without compromising the original vision of the game) and it updates the graphics substantially.
